New to Gardening & Homesteading? Start Here

You don’t need acres of land, a giant garden, or hours of free time to grow food, preserve a harvest, and learn useful skills at home. Heck, you don’t even need a garden!

Start with a pot of herbs on the porch. Grow peppers in a container. Buy a box of tomatoes from a local farmer and turn them into sauce. Grab strawberries when they’re on sale and make jam.

Learning to preserve food doesn’t mean you have to grow every ingredient yourself. Sometimes it simply means rescuing those strawberries you bought with good intentions before they turn into a fuzzy science experiment in the back of the refrigerator!

Small-Scale Homestead is about doing what works for your space, your schedule, and your life. Start with one plant, one recipe, one batch of something worth saving…..or whatever sounds fun to you!

There is no prize for doing everything at once. There is, however, a pretty good reward for opening the pantry in January and finding something delicious you put there yourself.

Small Steps. Meaningful Rewards.
