First, why in the heck am I calling it “cool-season” instead of Fall Season? For people like me in the warmer zones, the cool season can be as late as November in some years. However, in a cooler zone, the cool season can make up a large portion of the growing season, including Spring and Fall! So..cool planting it is!
There is no need for your entire garden to go untouched all Fall and Winter. Depending on your zone, you can keep things going for at least a bit longer!
If you’re in the warmer zones, like me, you can keep the garden going almost all year long!
Many plants are great for warm or cool weather, but I’ve listed some of the more common cool-weather-loving herbs & veggies for you to check out. If you love having fresh food at your disposal and want to extend your season as much as possible, take a look and pick your favorites.

*Most herbs will grow better in cooler weather. They are perennials in cooler zones, while being annuals in warmer climates

Ranunculus, if you’re into something that is just plain pretty!
Due to the high temperatures here in SE Texas, even into October and November, I haven’t had much luck with these ladies. I will absolutely keep trying because they are among the most gorgeous flowers. You dig up your corms and store them for next season.
